MSU Email

Michigan State University is currently running two email systems.

  • Undergraduate students are being migrated to Office 365 (spartanmail.msu.edu) beginning with individuals that set up their MSU NetID on or after June 8, 2015.
  • All others are using our primary email service, referred to as webmail, at mail.msu.edu/imp/login.php.

After entering a NetID on this page, individuals will be directed to their email system. New undergraduate students will be directed to the Office 365 interface with all others directed to MSU's primary email system, Webmail.

Email addresses in both systems are MSU NetID@msu.edu (e.g., sparty@msu.edu where "sparty" is the MSU NetID).

Office 365 Details

Students who have been migrated to Office 365 should use their MSU email address (e.g. sparty@msu.edu) with their MSU NetID password to login to Office 365.

Note: Passwords in Office 365 should be the same password that was set up and used for your MSU NetID. If this is the first time logging into Office 365 and the MSU NetID password does not work, please visit the MSU NetID webpage (https://netid.msu.edu/change-netid-password.php) and reset your NetID password which will force a sync with Office 365. It may take up to 15 minutes to sync. If you have trouble logging into Office 365, please contact MSU's IT Service Desk at (517) 432-6200.

There are plans to transition returning undergraduate students (those that began with MSU prior to June 8) during the fall 2015 semester. A migration plan will be communicated to returning undergraduate students to assist them in transitioning. Until that time, these students should continue to use mail.msu.edu/webmail.
